What is the Regional Indigenous Social Enterprise (RISE) Hub?

Yarnteen and SVA have entered into a partnership to develop the Yarnteen Regional Indigenous Social Enterprise (RISE) Hub.

The overall objective of the RISE Hub is to increase the skill capacity of Indigenous entrepreneurs and support them in developing sustainable social enterprises that create jobs for Indigenous people. This will be achieved by developing the infrastructure required to manage the RISE Hub at Yarnteen Creative Enterprise Centre in Newcastle, and facilitating and supporting Indigenous social enterprises, employing Indigenous people and providing skills training to enhance future employment opportunities for unemployed Indigenous people.

The hub provides the following offerings: best practice Indigenous social enterprise models; a training centre; a cultural diversity and appreciation program; and access to partnerships and networks to the business sectors and Indigenous community.

The RISE Hub will be led by Yarnteen. SVA has provided support via funding, mentoring, assistance in developing the RISE model and participation in the RISE Hub panel. Financial support was secured from the Allco Foundation and J A Com as a co-contribution to piloting the Hub. With funding from the federal government’s Jobs Fund over the next two years, the RISE Hub is well placed to grow its social and economic impact for Indigenous individuals and communities in the Newcastle and surrounding region.

What is the Yarnteen/Microsoft Project?

Through the development of the RISE Hub, Yarnteen recognised that there are considerable gaps in the capacity of Indigenous people to run effective businesses, especially in the area of IT and business based skills.

To support the training needs within the community a Yarnteen/Microsoft and SVA training partnership was established to develop and implement IT and Business training programs. The partnership aims to develop and implement training and on-the-job experiences to overcome the IT skills gap. The training will be conducted within the areas of SVA’s existing Hubs, Parramatta, Queensland and Parramatta.

A steering group consisting of Yarnteen, Microsoft and SVA has been set up to oversee the project.
